Q: Do I have to move my car out of the garage to get into a shelter inside the garage?

No, you do not need to move your car. With the vehicle pulled all the way forward in a standard size garage you will have 3-5′ of room between the rear bumper of the vehicle and the garage door. This will provide more than enough room to enter the shelter and leave the vehicle parked over it. There’s no need to worry about your vehicle getting pounded with large hail or flying debris.

Q: Does the job leave a mess for us to clean up?

We train our crews to leave your garage cleaner than they found it and we want you to be happy with the results. We hear all the time “your install crew left our garage cleaner than it was when they arrived.” If you’re unhappy after the crew leaves please contact us. Your complete satisfaction is our goal!

Q: Does it make a lot of dust when you cut the concrete slab?

Yes, BUT we use a wet saw to cut the concrete slab to help minimize dust. We only use jackhammers if we encounter some rock below the slab. We do recommend moving or covering any items you don’t want to get wet or dusty during the install process.

Q: How long does it take to install a storm shelter?

Unless we hit a bed of rock or any other unforeseen circumstance most installs take about 3-5 hours depending on the size and where the shelter is installed.

Q: Does the installation of a storm shelter harm the foundation?

We have installed thousands of shelters with no issue of structural damage to the foundation. Our process is certified by a structural engineer to be sound and to ensure it won’t be compromised in the event of heavy rain.

Q: What happens if the house falls on the top of the storm shelter and we can’t get out?

The primary purpose of obtaining a storm shelter permit is to ensure they are installed properly and to have a register of where all storm shelters are installed. This makes it easier for emergency personnel to know where to look after a tornado. All garage storm shelters come equipped with ball-bearing sliding doors that allow you to roll the lids open easily instead of lifting them against debris. Since the shelter will be covered and protected by a vehicle it will shield the lid against falling debris.
